Introduction to Competition Law

– Understand the most important competition law rules that restrict companies in their trade practices

Competition law comprises of a set of legal rules that seeks to prevent market distortion caused by anti-competitive practices on the part of one or several businesses. The aim of competition law is thus to control both monopolistic, unfair, and restrictive trade practices respectively by creating a set of rules that enhances competition or competitive outcomes in the markets.

All companies, regardless of size and legal status, have to follow strict competition laws. The consequences for not complying with competition laws can be crippling economically and even lead to the criminal prosecution of individuals in the event of serious breaches. Economic consequences can include fines up to 10% of a group global turnover, agreements can be deemed unenforceable, and the extent of possible damages claims can also be quite severe.

This course will provide a thorough introduction to the most important rules within competition law. The course will touch upon both Danish and EC Competition legislation. The course is designed as a training to enable you as a legal representative of a client/company or as a manager to have a fundamental understanding of key competition law restrictions and to be able to assert the company’s own rights and protects its position in a (fair) marketplace.
